The friendly between Morocco and Ghana, scheduled for Sunday, October 4 in Tangier, could be cancelled as the Ghanaian Football Association faces a serious crisis.

Ghana, who missed the previous Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Morocco, made a poor start to the 2027 qualifiers, losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire before suffering a 4-2 home defeat against Gambia.

Carlos Queiroz has come under criticism for his management of the team. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the Ghana coach said he had selected the best players available to him and challenged anyone who disagreed to suggest other options.

Gambia coach Johnathan McKinstry also said his players noticed tensions between some Ghana internationals during the match, claiming that certain Black Stars players appeared unhappy with one another.

The problems extend beyond the results on the pitch. Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku was attacked by an angry supporter after the defeat at Accra Sports Stadium, which was Ghana’s first loss to Gambia in 33 years. The Black Stars were also booed by supporters after the final whistle, according to Pulse.

Several players have withdrawn from Ghana’s current training camp, including Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Thomas Partey and, most recently, captain Jordan Ayew. The absences have officially been attributed to injuries, although they have raised questions given the tensions surrounding the national team.

The federation is also facing financial disputes with Ghana’s players, while the team’s results have deteriorated. Unpaid bonuses are reportedly at the centre of the dispute, which could now affect the planned match against Morocco.

The game has not been officially cancelled, but the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is reportedly looking for another opponent for Morocco during the international break.

Morocco and Ghana have faced each other 10 times, with the matches producing five Moroccan wins, two Ghanaian wins and three draws. None of those meetings was a friendly.
