Real Madrid has continued its summer rebuild by confirming the signing of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig and announcing a long-term contract extension for Vinicius Jr. The Spanish club is strengthening both its squad and its core ahead of the new season.
In a statement released on August 6, Real Madrid announced an agreement with Leipzig for the transfer of Diomande, who has signed a seven-year contract, keeping him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2033.
“Real Madrid C. F. and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement for the transfer of Yan Diomande, who will be under contract with our club for the next seven seasons, through June 30, 2033,” the club stated.
The LaLiga side did not disclose the financial details of the transfer. However, Spanish newspaper MARCA reported the deal could be worth up to €125 million, with an additional €10 million to €15 million in performance-related add-ons, potentially making it the most expensive signing in the club’s history.
Diomande arrives after an impressive breakthrough season with Leipzig. The 19-year-old Côte d’Ivoire international scored 12 Bundesliga goals and provided nine assists as the German club finished third, securing qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League. He also represented Côte d’Ivoire at the FIFA World Cup earlier this year, where the African side reached the round of 32.
Alongside Diomande’s arrival, Real Madrid announced that Vinicius Jr. had signed a new contract, extending his stay at the club until June 30, 2032.
The Brazil international, who joined Madrid in 2018, has become one of the club’s most influential players. In announcing the extension, Real Madrid highlighted his decisive role in recent successes, including goals in the UEFA Champions League finals won in Paris in 2022 and London in 2024.
“Vinicius Jr. has become one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in our history,” the club emphasized in its statement.
These latest moves continue Real Madrid’s busy summer rebuild under José Mourinho, who returned for a second spell as head coach in June. His return follows a disappointing campaign in which the club finished second in LaLiga behind Barcelona and exited the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage.
As part of this process, Madrid has reinforced the squad with the signings of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, and Denzel Dumfries.
