Spain took the lead in the 22nd minute when Mikel Oyarzabal calmly converted a penalty to put his side ahead. The Spaniards continued to control the match and doubled their advantage shortly after the break, with Pedro Porro finding the net in the 58th minute to seal the victory.
The result sends Spain into their first World Cup final since 2010, when they claimed the trophy for the first and only time in South Africa.
Luis de la Fuente’s side have built their success on a strong defensive record. Widely regarded as the tournament’s best defense, Spain have conceded just one goal in seven matches, a strike they allowed in their 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Belgium.
Spain will now await the winner of Wednesday’s second semifinal between Argentina and England, scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. (Moroccan time) at Atlanta Stadium.
