The result at the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour event further solidifies Boukhiam’s position among the world’s top surfers and marks a significant milestone for Moroccan surfing, according to a statement from the Royal Moroccan Surfing Federation.
From the opening rounds, Boukhiam demonstrated determination, control, and commitment in the challenging conditions at Teahupo’o.
After winning his opening round, Boukhiam achieved a significant victory in the second round by defeating Leonardo Fioravanti of Italy, who was ranked No. 1 in the world at the time.
Boukhiam scored 15.67 points, with two waves rated 8.17 and 7.50; Fioravanti finished with 13.50 points.
In the third round, Boukhiam faced Brazil’s João Chianca in a highly anticipated rematch. Boukhiam emerged victorious, booking his place in the quarterfinals and securing notable sporting revenge after their memorable encounter on the same wave at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In the quarterfinals, Boukhiam delivered one of his strongest performances of the competition against Australia’s George Pittar.
The Moroccan posted an outstanding combined score of 17.74 points from waves rated 9.57 and 8.17. With an 8.90-point lead, Boukhiam won the quarterfinal match and advanced to the semifinals.
Boukhiam’s run ultimately ended in the semifinals, securing him third place at the 2026 Tahiti Pro and a spot on the podium at one of the world’s most prestigious surfing events.
This latest podium finish at Teahupo’o is particularly significant for the Moroccan surfer, who also placed third at the Tahiti Pro in 2024.
Boukhiam has once again demonstrated his strong connection with the waves and his ability to compete with the world’s best surfers in challenging conditions.
As the first Moroccan to qualify for the WSL Championship Tour, a two-time Olympian, and a 2024 ISA World Silver Medalist, Boukhiam continues to make history for Moroccan surfing.
For the Royal Moroccan Surfing Federation, the podium finish represents more than an individual result. It reflects Morocco’s presence at the highest level of international surfing and provides inspiration for a new generation of Moroccan surfers.
Through his talent, commitment, and consistent performance at the highest level, Boukhiam continues to represent Morocco on some of the world’s biggest waves.
