Morocco’s national tennis team made a strong start to its Davis Cup tie against Nigeria, taking a 2-0 lead in Rabat thanks to victories by Karim Bennani and Yassine Dlimi. The result leaves Morocco one point away from qualifying for the World Group I playoffs.
The Moroccan team ended the opening day of its World Group II tie against Nigeria with a 2-0 lead on Saturday at the Club des Cheminots courts in Rabat.
Yassine Dlimi extended Morocco’s advantage with a victory in the second singles match, after Karim Bennani had won the opening encounter.
After his match, Dlimi said he was “very happy to have won this match and helped the team take an important second point.”
“Karim Bennani’s convincing victory in the first match gave me a lot of motivation,” he added, saying he made sure to “maintain the same level of concentration in order to close out the match.”
“We have taken an important step, but we will approach tomorrow’s matches with the same seriousness in order to officially secure qualification,” the Moroccan player said.
The tie will resume on Sunday with the doubles match, followed by two singles encounters.
A victory in the tie would send Morocco into the Davis Cup World Group I playoffs, which are scheduled for February 2027.
