The national women’s team put the finishing touches to their preparations on Sunday, as head coach Jorge Vilda and his staff worked on tactical adjustments ahead of Monday’s decisive encounter against Senegal at Stade Moulay El Hassan. The match marks Morocco’s final Group A fixture at the 2026 WAFCON, which is being held in the Kingdom through August 16.
The Atlas Lionesses must defeat Senegal to secure top spot in the group and book their place in the quarterfinals. Ghizlane Chebbak and her teammates currently lead the standings with six points.
Algeria, who suffered a 1-0 defeat to Morocco in the second round after opening the tournament with a 2-0 win over Senegal, sit second with three points.
Senegal are third, also on three points. Kenya, beaten 4-0 by Morocco before losing 1-0 to Senegal, remain bottom of the group without a point.
Morocco, runners-up in the last two editions of the tournament, are aiming not only to reach the knockout stage but also to make another run to the final—this time with the ambition of lifting the trophy.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, head coach Jorge Vilda said: “We are going to play in the best possible way to achieve a good result.”

Midfielder Sakina Ouzraoui also stressed the importance of maintaining focus against Senegal.
“This WAFCON is very competitive because even with six points we have not yet qualified for the next round. That means we must stay fully focused on our performance and our style of play to create the chances that can make the difference against Senegal,” she said.
