Women’s AFCON: Cameroon clinch first continental title against Malawi

Cameroon won their first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title on Sunday, Aug. 16, beating Malawi 3-0 in the final at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.

Cameroon made history on Sunday, Aug. 16, winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for the first time after beating Malawi 3-0 in the final at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat in a thoroughly controlled performance.

The Cameroonians put in a polished display to secure the continental title. Ngah Manga opened the scoring before Naomie Eto doubled the lead a few minutes later. Before halftime, Ngah Manga struck again to complete Cameroon’s third goal and send her side into the break with a comfortable lead.

The final also drew several major figures from African and world football to the stands at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium.

Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) President Fouzi Lekjaa, CAF President Patrice Motsepe and FIFA President Gianni Infantino all attended the match.

Cameroon Football Federation President Samuel Eto’o was also in the stands at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.

Cameroon had topped Group B with seven points before eliminating Nigeria in the quarterfinals and then beating Morocco in the semifinals.

Malawi, meanwhile, had also finished top of their group, Group C, with six points. The Malawians then eliminated Ghana in the quarterfinals before beating Algeria in the semifinals to book their place in the final.
