According to organizers, “Ahidous is a fundamental component of Morocco’s intangible cultural heritage, reflecting the richness of the country’s cultural traditions. Preserving, promoting, and transmitting this artistic expression to future generations, while supporting the poets, artists, and performers who keep it alive, remains one of the ministry’s priorities.”
In this context, the organizers added that “the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, Culture Department, has worked to preserve Ahidous, as it has with other forms of traditional musical heritage, through a range of mechanisms, initiatives, and activities. These include organizing the National Ahidous Festival, which serves as an important platform for preserving and promoting this heritage, creating celebratory spaces to showcase its treasures to the public, while also acting as a driver of economic, social, and cultural development in the region where it is held.”
The festival’s 25th edition will celebrate “the performative and festive dimensions of Ahidous through performances by troupes representing the diverse styles and regional expressions of this traditional Amazigh art from across Morocco.”
The program will also include a “tribute ceremony honoring several pioneers and leading figures of Ahidous in recognition of their distinguished artistic careers and their lasting contributions to preserving, promoting, and passing on the art form and its cultural and human values.”
