Fed by rising waters in the Ghiss River, the dam has received substantial amounts of water following heavy downpours across Al Hoceima, Imzouren and surrounding areas.
Located 43 kilometers southwest of Al Hoceima, the reservoir has a storage capacity of 93 million cubic meters.

Built at a cost of 1.38 billion dirhams, Ghiss Dam is designed to secure drinking water supplies for Al Hoceima province and nearby towns. It will also help protect downstream areas from flooding and provide irrigation for nearly 1,320 hectares of farmland.
Construction began in mid-2017, and the project is now more than 99% complete. Work is expected to finish nearly nine months ahead of the original schedule.
The dam is part of Morocco’s national program to build 16 major dams, aimed at expanding water storage capacity and strengthening the country’s water security.
