Diesel prices reached the MAD 15-a-liter mark at the start of September after another six-cent increase on Tuesday, extending a run of increases that has added around MAD 2.40 to the price of a liter since mid-July.
The latest adjustment took diesel to around MAD 15.01 a liter at stations where it had previously sold for MAD 14.95, while prices at some outlets could reach around MAD 15.03.
Actual pump prices continue to vary depending on the distributor, station location and transport and distribution costs.
Gasoline prices, meanwhile, were unchanged at around MAD 14.93 a liter at a number of stations.
MAD 2.40 increase in six weeks
Diesel has risen by around 19% since mid-July following a succession of price increases.
On July 16, the price increased by around 69 cents, from MAD 12.61 to MAD 13.30 a liter.
Another increase of nearly MAD 1 followed at the beginning of August before diesel gained a further 65 cents in the middle of the month.
Tuesday’s six-cent adjustment brings the cumulative increase since mid-July to around MAD 2.40 per liter.
Gasoline has followed a different path. Its price increased by 39 cents in mid-July and by around MAD 1 at the beginning of August before falling 30 cents in the middle of the month. It has remained unchanged since then.
The latest pump-price adjustment comes after crude oil prices retreated during the final week of August, following gains over the previous two weeks.
Brent had gained around 13% over those two weeks before pulling back as investors took profits, against a backdrop of continued geopolitical uncertainty affecting the oil market, including developments involving crude shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
