Morocco is strengthening its position in the European tomato market and widening its lead over Spain. For the second year in a row, Morocco sold more tomatoes than Spain in the European Union (EU) during the 2025/2026 campaign, according to an analysis by specialist website Hortoinfo, based on data from Euroestacom’s statistical service (Icex-Eurostat). This allowed Morocco to retain second place among the EU’s suppliers, ahead of Spain and behind the Netherlands.
The trend highlights Morocco’s growing presence in the European market in recent years. Over the 10 campaigns since 2016/2017, Moroccan tomato exports to the EU have increased by 22.17%, while Spanish exports have fallen by 36.99% and Dutch exports by 18.4%.
During the 2025/2026 campaign, EU member states imported more than 2.78 million tonnes of tomatoes, worth over €5.56 billion. The average price paid was €2 per kilogram.
