Morocco has emerged as one of Africa’s top-performing mobile markets for upload speeds, ranking second on the continent behind Madagascar, according to new data published by internet performance measurement company nPerf.
Based on millions of user tests conducted between January and July 2026, Morocco recorded an average mobile upload speed of 18.8 megabits per second (Mbps), narrowly trailing Madagascar (19.3 Mbps).
The Kingdom outperformed several other African markets, including Togo (18.0 Mbps), Senegal (13.7 Mbps), Benin (11.8 Mbps), Côte d’Ivoire (11.4 Mbps), Tunisia (9.6 Mbps), Algeria (9.6 Mbps), South Africa (8.2 Mbps) and Kenya (7.4 Mbps).
Faster uploads, smoother digital services
While download speeds often receive the most attention, upload performance has become increasingly important as digital habits evolve.
Higher upload speeds improve the experience of video conferencing, cloud computing, remote work, live streaming and sharing high-resolution photos and videos, while also reducing the time needed to transfer large files.
According to nPerf’s data, uploading a 1-gigabyte file over Morocco’s mobile network takes less than eight minutes on average.
By comparison, the same operation would require nearly 10 minutes in both Tunisia and Algeria.
Morocco’s average upload speed is almost twice as fast as those recorded in its two North African neighbors and more than double Kenya’s average.
Investments paying off
The latest rankings reflect continued improvements in Morocco’s mobile infrastructure, driven by sustained investment from telecom operators and growing demand for data-intensive digital services.
As cloud applications, online collaboration tools and content creation become more widespread, upload speeds are increasingly viewed as a key indicator of network quality rather than a secondary performance metric.
Unlike download speeds, which measure how quickly users receive data, upload speeds determine how efficiently information can be sent from a device to the internet—a capability that has become essential for businesses, digital creators and remote workers.
