SOMED and Egypt’s Pickalbatros set out to transform Casablanca’s Sindibad park

A new karting circuit, an international-standard water park, and an updated food selection are among the changes planned for Casablanca’s Sindibad Park, which is beginning the most ambitious transformation in its history. Sindipark, a joint venture equally owned by SOMED (a subsidiary of Al Mada) and the Egyptian group Pickalbatros, is leading the project.

The project includes developing a large water park that meets international standards. New attractions will expand the current offerings, and a new karting circuit will provide visitors with another activity. The food and beverage area will undergo a complete redesign to offer a wider range of options aimed at different visitor profiles and designed to complement the experience throughout the day.

Construction is expected to take between nine and 12 months. Once the transformation is complete, Sindibad will offer a significantly enhanced leisure experience. The goal is to provide a high level of quality for Moroccan visitors and international tourists alike.

A transfer of experience, not a copy

The partnership with Pickalbatros aims to bring the group’s expertise in designing, developing, and managing large leisure parks to Morocco. The new Sindibad will draw on the expertise developed through Neverland, a Pickalbatros concept combining attractions, water activities, shows, entertainment, and food and beverage services, in Egypt.

However, the goal is not to replicate the Egyptian model. Instead, SOMED and Pickalbatros plan to build on that experience to develop a concept specifically adapted to Casablanca and the Moroccan market that meets the expectations of domestic and international visitors alike.

This new phase reflects the two shareholders’ intention to strengthen Sindibad’s long-term position. The park is expected to become a significant part of Casablanca’s leisure offerings.

Close family ties to Morocco

Pickalbatros is owned by Kamel Abu Aly, a businessman with extensive experience in tourism, hospitality, and leisure. Although it is often described as an Egyptian group because of its origins and longstanding presence in Egypt, Pickalbatros also has close family ties to Morocco.

According to a source close to the owner, Kamel Abu Aly is married to a Moroccan woman. Their three children are Moroccan nationals. The family views its investments in Morocco as long-term commitments to a country to which they remain attached and where they intend to continue expanding their business.

Pickalbatros is relatively unknown in Morocco but operates more than 35 hotels and resorts in Egypt, with a combined capacity of over 16,000 rooms. The group has also received several international distinctions in the tourism sector.

Through this project, SOMED and Pickalbatros aim to support the development of Casablanca’s leisure offerings. The two shareholders are targeting Moroccan families while also seeking to strengthen the city’s appeal to international visitors.

The new Sindibad will be a complete leisure destination, combining an amusement park, a large water park, go-karting, entertainment, and diverse dining options in one location for Moroccan and international visitors.

The project goes beyond the transformation of one of Casablanca’s historic parks. It is another step in developing the city’s leisure economy and urban tourism sector.
