Prosecutors in Kenitra have opened a judicial investigation after a legislative election candidate suggested that proceeds from large-scale drug sales could be used to influence the electoral process.
The remarks were made during a party meeting in the run-up to the September 23 elections and subsequently circulated on social media.
The King’s Public Prosecutor at the Kenitra Court of Appeal has ordered an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the statements and determine what legal action, if any, should follow.
The prosecutor said the investigation was ordered as part of the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s responsibility to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
