The House of Representatives on Thursday rejected a newspaper report alleging that former MPs had been recruited by the chamber’s administration because of their political affiliations, calling the claims “false and entirely unfounded.”
In a statement issued on October 29, the House presidency expressed surprise that the newspaper had published what it described as inaccurate allegations without checking them with official sources.
It accused the publication of failing to meet basic standards of professionalism and objectivity, saying journalists were expected to verify information before publication in keeping with legal requirements and professional ethics.
The presidency said such allegations undermined the credibility of those making them.
It reiterated that the House remained open to journalists and was committed to providing accurate information about the workings of Parliament promptly and transparently.
