Thailand’s Ambassador to Rabat, Fabio Chinda, expects relations between his country and Morocco to become more dynamic and stronger in the near future.
In an interview with Le360, the Thai diplomat expressed his hope that bilateral ties will continue to deepen across several areas, including politics, the economy, trade, and tourism. Chinda spoke on the sidelines of the ASEAN Bazaar organized by the Thai Embassy.
“Morocco and Thailand have enjoyed good relations for 40 years,” he said, expressing hope that they will continue to strengthen in the years ahead.
On bilateral trade, however, the ambassador regretted that current trade volumes do not yet reflect the quality of the political relationship between the two countries.
“In terms of trade, bilateral exchanges amount to around $150 million, which is not much. But since I arrived here, the momentum in our relationship has improved significantly,” he said.
Chinda added that he hopes “to further develop these trade exchanges very soon.”
Thailand’s exports to Morocco consist mainly of cars, automotive spare parts, vehicles—including one-ton pickup trucks—air conditioners, rubber, and certain chemical products.
Morocco, in turn, exports phosphate, fertilizers, certain chemical products, and some textile products to Thailand, the ambassador said.
“We are still looking for other purchasing opportunities from Morocco, and likewise, from Morocco to Thailand,” he added.

“But I am very confident that we will find more and more trade opportunities between us,” he continued.
The Thai ambassador also welcomed the growing number of Moroccan tourists visiting Thailand each year.
“Moroccans now know Thailand much better than before, which is a good thing. Based on the feedback we receive, more than half of them are looking to return,” he said.
According to the ambassador, many Moroccans are becoming repeat visitors to Thailand.
“We are very happy to hear that and delighted that Moroccans enjoy our country,” the diplomat added.
Speaking about the ASEAN Bazaar, Chinda noted that the event marked the 59th anniversary of the regional organization in Rabat.
“We are organizing this ASEAN Bazaar, which we also held very successfully last year, because we have a beautiful embassy here, the location is excellent, and the venue is particularly well suited to showcasing the cultural diversity of our regions,” the ambassador concluded.
Between diplomacy, trade, tourism, and cultural cooperation, Rabat and Bangkok still have significant room to deepen their partnership. For Ambassador Fabio Chinda, Morocco-Thailand relations already rest on four decades of strong ties, but their economic and people-to-people potential has yet to be fully realized.
