Statement by the official spokesperson for the Interior Ministry regarding calls linked to Aug. 15, 2026
The Interior Ministry has observed, over the past several days, the circulation of posts and messages from unknown sources on certain social media platforms calling for attempts to collectively and illegally cross into the cities of Ceuta and Melilla. Such practices pose serious risks to people’s safety and seek to exploit migration issues in acts of incitement punishable by law.
In response to these calls, the Interior Ministry confirms that the public authorities are closely monitoring the situation. All necessary measures have been taken to address any attempt at illegal entry and intercept anyone seeking to take part, while initiating the required legal proceedings against anyone whose involvement in acts contrary to the law is established, including those promoting such calls on social media.
As part of these efforts, the authorities have arrested a group of individuals suspected of engaging in acts of incitement. They have been placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
The Interior Ministry stresses that the vigilance of the security forces is not tied to any specific date, but is part of a continuous monitoring system, particularly in areas near the crossing points of Ceuta and Melilla. This system is constantly reinforced and adapted according to developments in the situation and the nature of the risks identified.
While affirming that the fight against illegal immigration is carried out in accordance with the law and with the protection of people’s safety in mind, the ministry calls on everyone to remain vigilant and act responsibly, and not to be drawn into these suspicious and misleading calls, given the dangers they pose to people’s lives.
The fight against illegal immigration and human trafficking networks cannot rely on the efforts of one party alone. It requires all parties to assume their responsibilities and honor their commitments as part of a shared-responsibility framework.
In this context, the Interior Ministry calls on the Spanish authorities, within the framework of the existing coordination and cooperation between the two countries, to assume their responsibilities and work to accelerate procedures for the return of unaccompanied minors in the city of Ceuta to their families in Morocco, in accordance with their best interests, while working to overcome the administrative and judicial obstacles hindering their return as soon as possible.
Recognizing that addressing the challenges of illegal immigration is a shared responsibility requiring effective and balanced cooperation, as well as a mutual commitment from all parties, and given the positive results and impact of the immediate-return mechanism, the ministry reiterates the central importance of this mechanism, whose effectiveness and tangible contribution to addressing the challenges at hand and strengthening field operations have been demonstrated by past experience.
In conclusion, the Interior Ministry confirms that the Moroccan authorities will continue to carry out their duties with all the firmness and responsibility required to safeguard public order and the safety of people and property, and to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking networks, while maintaining the highest level of vigilance, preparedness and continuous coordination to address the various risks, in full compliance with the law.
