The Moroccan Parliament, with both chambers meeting jointly, will hold a special session next Monday to discuss the latest developments concerning the national issue at the United Nations Security Council, according to an official statement.

The session is scheduled for Monday, November 2, at 1 p.m., under a joint statement signed by Ahmed Touizi, speaker of the House of Representatives, and Mohamed Ouled Errachid, speaker of the House of Councillors.

The session follows Friday’s meeting of the UN Security Council, where a US-drafted resolution supporting autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty received 11 votes in favor but was blocked by a Russian veto. Moscow’s position prevented the renewal of the MINURSO mandate.

The Royal Office said that “the mandate of MINURSO was not renewed by the United Nations Security Council at its meeting today, October 30, 2026.” It described this as an “important development and a significant step toward the definitive closure of the Moroccan Sahara issue at the United Nations.”

The statement further said that the non-renewal of MINURSO’s mandate clearly means that the mission’s presence in the Kingdom’s southern provinces, particularly through its personnel, vehicles, equipment and symbols, “should come to an end in the coming days.”
