Police officers at the port carried out the operation in coordination with customs officials. The drugs were found during an inspection of a Moroccan-registered truck used for international freight transport.

The cannabis resin, known locally as chira, had been concealed inside crates containing agricultural produce. The cargo had been carefully packed to facilitate the smuggling operation.

The truck driver, a 35-year-old Moroccan national, was placed under judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office. Investigators are seeking to establish the full circumstances of the case and identify any domestic or international links to the criminal network.

The seizure forms part of ongoing efforts by security services at Morocco’s border crossings to combat international drug and psychotropic substance trafficking networks.
