Forty-two people were killed and 3,248 injured in road crashes in urban areas between September 7 and 13, according to figures released by the DGSN on Tuesday.
Of those injured, 133 were in serious condition. Police recorded 2,404 accidents over the seven-day period.
Driver inattention was the leading cause cited by the DGSN, followed by failure to yield, pedestrian inattention and excessive speed. Loss of control, unsafe changes of direction and failure to maintain a safe distance were also among the causes recorded.
Police meanwhile booked 51,057 traffic violations during enforcement operations over the same period. Of these, 7,986 resulted in reports referred to prosecutors, while 43,071 were settled through fines.
The fines brought in MAD 9.46 million.
Police also sent 5,401 vehicles to municipal impounds, withdrew 7,986 documents and took 592 vehicles off the road.
