DGSN rolls out AI-powered ‘Amane’ and ‘Madar’ smart patrol vehicles in Casablanca

Connected, AI-powered and designed for rapid deployment, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) officially introduced its new “Amane” and “Madar” patrol vehicles in Casablanca on Saturday.

According to Redouane Attinaoui, head of the Urban Security Division for Casablanca’s Anfa district, the deployment forms part of the DGSN’s strategy to enhance security across public spaces.

“The two vehicles are equipped with next-generation, ultra-high-definition cameras capable of detecting anomalies in public spaces and transmitting them directly to security teams. They are specifically designed to identify wanted individuals and vehicles,” he said.

The two vehicles represent complementary approaches to intelligent mobile surveillance, as previously explained to Le360 by Loubna El Gamous, a senior police commissioner with the DGSN.

"These systems do more than monitor. They can identify wanted individuals through real-time facial recognition and detect stolen or suspicious vehicles by automatically reading license plates," she said.

The technology combines artificial intelligence, computer vision, biometric recognition and real-time scene analysis.

“This year we launched the second generation of Amane, an intelligent patrol vehicle equipped with multiple cameras and a wide-angle vision system. It analyzes data in real time and automatically recognizes license plates with an accuracy of up to 95%,” El Gamous added.

Beyond license plate recognition, Amane can identify wanted individuals using facial recognition technology and immediately alert security teams whenever intervention is required.

Madar, meanwhile, transforms a standard patrol vehicle into a mobile intelligent surveillance platform equipped with integrated 360-degree cameras and powered by the same AI system used in Amane.

“The objective is to provide security forces with modern tools that help them make the right decisions at the right time, quickly and proactively,” El Gamous said.

Amane: A Next-Generation Smart Patrol Vehicle

According to the vehicle’s technical specifications, Amane is designed to improve operational efficiency through an integrated ecosystem combining embedded artificial intelligence, real-time recognition capabilities and extended operational autonomy.

The vehicle features a fully autonomous 360-degree surveillance system built around 11 customized optical-zoom cameras. These include four roof-corner cameras, two roof-mounted side cameras, two central roof cameras and a panoramic camera capable of completing a full rotation every three seconds while zooming up to 40 meters.

Three dedicated automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras read Moroccan license plates with an accuracy of 90%, rising to 95% under operational conditions. An interior camera uses facial recognition to verify the identities of both the driver and passenger before vehicle access is granted.

At the core of the system is an AI patrol mode that performs real-time behavioral analysis while detecting intrusions and anomalies through machine learning. An onboard server equipped with dedicated CPU and GPU processing powers the system, while an intelligent interface simultaneously displays eight live camera feeds alongside AI-generated alerts.

Officers can also communicate through the DGSN’s internal network and query the central database in real time to verify the identity of individuals or vehicles. Every alert generated by the system is automatically geolocated.

The vehicle’s exterior has also been redesigned. Its roof-mounted camera module is manufactured using 3D-printed ABS material, while a bumper imported from Portugal integrates two additional side cameras to maximize visual coverage. The rear compartment houses the technical cabinet containing AI processing units, communications equipment, power systems and onboard management hardware.

Amane offers up to 16 hours of continuous operation and is designed for four principal missions: urban patrols and community policing, event security and crowd management, smart city operations and the protection of critical infrastructure.

Madar: A Mobile 360-Degree Surveillance Platform

Like Amane, Madar integrates the DGSN’s AI-powered surveillance platform but is built by transforming a standard vehicle into a high-tech mobile monitoring unit.

Its fully 3D-printed emergency light bar incorporates high-resolution cameras capable of capturing fast-moving objects without distortion while simultaneously monitoring up to six traffic lanes.

Each section of the light bar contains three cameras, complemented by a central 360-degree panoramic camera that eliminates blind spots. Together, the system provides automatic license plate recognition and real-time facial identification.

The panoramic camera completes a full rotation in less than three seconds, giving officers an immediate view of the vehicle’s surroundings.

Madar also features an upgraded emergency lighting system, combining high-intensity rear strobe lights with additional strobe units integrated into the front bumper to improve visibility during operations.

The vehicle introduces a new visual identity for DGSN patrol units while relying on the same AI platform as Amane, including real-time facial recognition, automatic license plate detection, geolocated alerts and direct access to the DGSN’s central database through the onboard communications terminal.
