Four people have been charged in connection with an unauthorized gathering in Rabat that allegedly turned violent, leaving three police officers injured, the King’s Prosecutor at the Rabat Court of First Instance said on Thursday.
The four are being prosecuted while in custody on charges of refusing police orders, taking part in an unauthorized gathering, insulting public officials on duty and assaulting them, according to a statement issued by the prosecutor’s office.
The case stems from an October 12 gathering attended by around 40 people, including 14 women.
The prosecution said the participants had caused disorder on a public road and disrupted services for members of the public.
Police asked the group to disperse, but the participants refused to comply, the statement said.

When officers attempted to break up the gathering, they encountered violent resistance, according to the prosecution. Three policemen were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
The prosecutor’s office subsequently ordered an investigation, leading to the arrest of seven people who were placed in police custody.
Four were charged after being brought before prosecutors and the investigation findings were reviewed. They were subsequently brought before the court.
The statement said all those arrested had been afforded the legal safeguards available to them, including the right to defense.
