The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has launched a major investment program aimed at securing the drinking water supply for Khouribga.
Backed by a total budget of MAD 365 million, the project seeks to strengthen water supply for the city and surrounding communities using water treated at the Aït Messaoud Dam treatment plant.
The first component of the program focuses on expanding water transfer infrastructure. A total of 24 kilometers of pipelines, with diameters of up to 1,000 millimeters, will be installed. Construction is currently underway on an initial 14-kilometer section, while an additional 10 kilometers are planned to extend the network and improve water delivery to the various beneficiary areas.

The investment also includes work to increase the production capacity of the demineralization plant. The objective is to boost its output by 330 liters per second, allowing it to produce more drinking water and meet rising demand in Khouribga and neighboring communities.
Storage infrastructure also forms a key part of the program. Two new reservoirs with a combined capacity of 50,000 cubic meters will be built to strengthen water reserves, regulate distribution, and ensure uninterrupted supply, particularly during periods of peak demand.
According to information published by the Maa Dialna platform, an initial project worth MAD 95 million is expected to enter service in December 2026. It forms part of a broader package of strategic projects valued at MAD 270 million, bringing the total investment dedicated to strengthening the region’s drinking water supply to MAD 365 million.
Once completed, the program is expected to benefit nearly 656,000 residents of Khouribga and neighboring communities. Through these investments, ONEE aims to reinforce the production, transfer, and storage infrastructure for drinking water in order to better meet the population’s growing needs.
