A 58-year-old Moroccan residing abroad (MRE) was arrested in Nador on Monday over the shooting death of a woman in Oujda a day earlier.

The 40-year-old woman was found dead in the El Jorf neighborhood on Sunday night. She had been shot twice.

A ballistics examination showed that a hunting rifle had been used.

Police traced the suspect to Nador, where he was arrested as he was allegedly preparing to leave the country. Two spent cartridge cases corresponding to the ammunition used in the shooting were found in his possession, according to police.

Initial investigations suggest the two knew each other and had met on Sunday night at the place where the shooting occurred.

What led to the shooting remains unclear.

The suspect has been remanded in police custody while the investigation continues under the supervision of the public prosecutor.
