As temperatures climb across the capital, the recently redeveloped corniche linking Rabat and Harhoura has become one of the region’s most popular evening destinations, attracting thousands of residents seeking cooler air along the Atlantic coast.
Every evening, visitors gather on the waterfront promenade, which stretches alongside a newly widened coastal road and features landscaped green spaces, pedestrian walkways and a range of public amenities developed by the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Regional Council.
A Le360 team visiting the site found the promenade particularly busy in recent days, with daytime temperatures regularly approaching 35°C.
Families, walkers and groups of friends from across Rabat are flocking to the corniche to enjoy the ocean breeze, the panoramic sea views and the newly created public spaces, especially during the late afternoon and around sunset, when the heat begins to ease.
The growing popularity of the waterfront has also prompted new measures aimed at preserving the site.
To protect the recently landscaped lawns from heavy summer use, authorities have prohibited visitors from sitting or picnicking on the grass. The restriction is intended to safeguard the green spaces while ensuring their long-term upkeep.
To accommodate the increasing number of visitors, the promenade has also been equipped with additional benches and waste bins, offering more places to relax while encouraging cleaner public spaces.
