Morocco’s U15 national team embodies the “successes of today and ambitions for tomorrow” of Moroccan football, FIFA said in an article highlighting the team’s performances at the inaugural FIFA U15 World Cup and Festival, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from October 24 to 30.
In an article titled “Morocco: Today’s successes, tomorrow’s ambitions,” Inside FIFA, the governing body’s official platform, examined the country’s growing international profile, driven by the results of its national teams and the opportunities emerging for young players.
The platform noted that Karim Miftal’s players won all five of their preliminary-round matches, demonstrating their ability to adapt to opponents from different footballing backgrounds.
“It’s a very good experience, both on a human and sporting level,” Miftal told Inside FIFA. He said the tournament gives young players the chance to discover different styles of play, as they usually face mainly African and European teams.

Beyond the results, Miftal stressed the value of international competition in developing players technically and tactically through exposure to different football cultures.
The eight-a-side format also encourages more touches on the ball, faster play and a greater number of match situations, in a setting suited to this age group.
Inside FIFA placed the U15 team’s performances within the broader progress of Moroccan football, recalling the national team’s historic run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the U20 Atlas Lions’ title at the 2025 World Cup in Chile.
These achievements reinforce Morocco’s ambitions and showcase the potential of its new generation of footballers, the platform said.
The article also pointed to the opportunities created by hosting international competitions, including the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, which Morocco will host for five consecutive editions from 2025 to 2029.
Morocco is also preparing to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal. According to Inside FIFA, the tournament could give some of the young players currently in training the opportunity to take part in the competition in four years.
The inaugural FIFA U15 World Cup and Festival brings together teams from 189 FIFA member associations in Baku.
Designed as both a sporting and educational event, the tournament aims to support young players’ development through international matches, exchanges between delegations and awareness-raising activities. It also gives every participating team the opportunity to remain in the competition until its conclusion.
