Portuguese coaches continue to arrive in the Botola Pro. After Wydad Casablanca appointed Paulo Sérgio, FUS officially named Ricardo Formosinho as its new head coach on Monday, July 27.
Formosinho replaces Saïd Chiba at the helm of the Rabat-based club. Describing him as “one of the most experienced coaches of his generation,” FUS said the Portuguese manager will begin his second spell in Moroccan football after previously coaching Olympique de Khouribga during the 2022–23 season.
A former player for several Portuguese clubs, Formosinho began his coaching career in Portugal in the 1990s before taking on managerial roles in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. Formosinho also worked as a scout for Real Madrid in 2011.
More recently, he served as an assistant coach at Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Benfica between 2016 and 2026. FUS also noted that the Portuguese coach worked alongside José Mourinho at both English clubs, as well as at Fenerbahçe, where he served as the “Special One’s” video analyst.
“This appointment is part of the club’s strategy to strengthen its sporting project and raise the technical level of the first team, in line with Fath Union Sport’s ambition to compete for top honours and play football worthy of its history and stature,” the Rabat club said in a statement.
