On the final day of the Jumping of the Century, held to mark the centenary of Étrier de Casablanca, Morocco international rider Mohammed Azoum, a member of the national equestrian team, rode Sienna AEG to victory in the Grand Prix after defeating Badr Khiati, aboard Chancovio PS, in a jump-off.
On a particularly demanding course, Azoum and Khiati were the only riders to complete the opening round without faults, earning their places in the jump-off. They faced each other one final time in a high-level showdown, with Azoum producing the faster round to claim victory in this centenary edition.
Étrier de Casablanca director Moulay Ahmed Benmoussa reflected on the organization of the special edition, held to mark the club’s 100th anniversary.
“This year, Étrier de Casablanca is celebrating its centenary. To mark the occasion, we are organizing a four-star competition under the auspices of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Equestrian Sports called the Jumping of the Century. This edition promises to be historic, with an entry list of nearly 300 horses, exceptional prizes for the winners, a VIP area, and a starred chef. Everything has been designed to make this a historic competition worthy of this great club,” he said.
Azoum, the Grand Prix winner, said he was proud of his achievement.
“I’m very proud to have won this four-star 1.50-meter Grand Prix, especially with a mare that is only 8 years old. I would like to thank her owner, as well as the organizers, for this wonderful competition held to celebrate Étrier de Casablanca’s 100th anniversary. One hundred years is a huge milestone. I’m delighted to have written my name into the record books of this historic edition,” he said.
The other classes held over the three days of competition also featured several standout performances, notably from Jad Gerraoui. The Moroccan rider won the 1.25-meter, 1.35-meter, and 1.40-meter classes, finishing with one of the strongest overall performances at this year’s Jumping of the Century.
