Moroccan golfer Adam Bresnu made a historic run at the 126th U.S. Amateur Championship, reaching the quarterfinals in his first appearance at the prestigious tournament.
The 22-year-old competed at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, where the championship was held from Aug. 10 to 16. The tournament featured 312 amateur golfers, with the field reduced to 64 players after two rounds of stroke play before the match-play rounds began.
Bresnu advanced through the match-play stage to reach the final eight, becoming the first Moroccan golfer to reach the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur.
He entered the match-play draw as the No. 29 seed after the opening stroke-play rounds. His run continued through the Round of 16, putting him among the eight remaining players in the championship.
Bresnu’s appearance was also significant because he was making his U.S. Amateur debut. The USGA listed him among the exempt players for the 2026 championship, based on his position in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and his performance at the 2025 World Amateur Team Championship.
His performance adds another milestone to a rapidly developing amateur career. Bresnu, who represents Morocco and plays college golf for Texas Tech, previously won the 2025 NJCAA Jack Nicklaus Award as the top player in junior-college golf and later moved to Texas Tech.
The U.S. Amateur ultimately ended without Bresnu reaching the semifinals, but his quarterfinal appearance marked a first for Moroccan golf and placed him among the final eight players in one of the world’s most prestigious amateur championships.
