Sofiane Boufal has signed with Libyan club Al Ittihad Tripoli, the Moroccan international confirmed on Sunday, September 13. The midfielder arrived in Tripoli on Saturday evening to finalize the deal.
Boufal had attracted interest from several European clubs during the summer transfer window but opted for his first experience in Africa.
The Tripoli-based club, currently coached by Tunisian manager Faouzi Benzarti, is one of Libya’s most successful sides. Al Ittihad holds the record for league titles in the country, with 18 championships won between 1965 and 2022.
The Atlas Lion has 47 international caps and eight goals. Trained at Angers, Boufal has played for Lille, Celta Vigo, Southampton and Union Saint-Gilloise, among others.
