The United States will host the first-ever FIFA Women’s Club World Cup from January 5 to 30, 2028, FIFA announced Thursday, citing the country’s “strong experience in hosting” its competitions.

The United States already hosted the first expanded 32-team edition of the men’s Club World Cup in 2025 and, most notably, hosted the latest men’s World Cup last summer.

“The decision is motivated by the country’s strong experience in hosting FIFA competitions, the quality of its infrastructure and services, as well as the strong interest women’s football generates nationwide,” FIFA, football’s world governing body, said in a statement.

The teams taking part in the 2028 Women’s Club World Cup “will be selected based on sporting results in the leading continental club competition over a four-year period covering the seasons completed between 2024 and 2027. The objective is to ensure a competition of the highest possible level,” FIFA said.

The FIFA Council also approved the financial distribution model for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Brazil from June 24 to July 25, 2027. Under the model, $2.5 million will be allocated to participating federations through the preparation fund.

In men’s football, the final three matches of the 2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup, the new name for the former Club World Cup format, will be held in Qatar from December 9 to 16, 2026.
