At 23, Atif Tijani is heading somewhere few politicians his age do: the House of Representatives.
The Istiqlal candidate won one of Ouarzazate’s three seats in Wednesday’s legislative elections, making him the youngest MP of Morocco’s new Parliament.
Tijani headed Istiqlal’s list in the constituency and finished second in the race. PAM’s Iman Limaoui came first, while Tijani took the second seat and PJD’s Rachid El Kadi the third.
The result puts a politician barely into his twenties among the 395 members elected for the next five years.
It also gives Istiqlal another seat from an election in which the party finished third nationally with 65 MPs, just one behind RNI’s 66.
