Local administrative authorities will distribute the polling-station notices from Aug. 24 until 6 p.m. on Sept. 22, the eve of the election.
The notices will tell registered voters the location of their polling station and remind them of the election date and the opening and closing hours for voting.
The ministry stressed, however, that the notice is not required to vote. Voters need only present their national identity card as official proof of identity at the polling station.
Morocco is scheduled to elect members of the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of Parliament, on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Proxy voting opens for Moroccans abroad
The Interior Ministry also announced the opening Monday of an electronic platform allowing Moroccan voters living abroad to arrange proxy voting for the election.
Under Organic Law No. 27.11 governing the House of Representatives, Moroccans residing abroad who are registered on Morocco’s general electoral rolls may authorize another registered voter in Morocco to cast a ballot on their behalf.
The online service will remain available from Aug. 24 until noon on Sept. 22.
Voters abroad can access the service through the Elections portal or the electoral rolls website. They must enter their personal information as well as the details of the voter they have selected to act as their proxy, verify the information and confirm that they personally completed the authorization.
Once the proxy document has been generated, the voter abroad must download it and send it by email or post to the person authorized to vote on their behalf.
The proxy must be given to a voter registered on the general electoral roll of a municipality or district in Morocco.
