A multidisciplinary medical caravan was held Saturday and Sunday in Es-Semara to mark the first anniversary of the Unity Day celebration, bringing healthcare services closer to residents and strengthening early screening for several diseases.

Organized by the Provincial Health and Social Protection Delegation in partnership with the Attakafoul Association for Humanitarian Work, the initiative brought together a medical and paramedical team covering 10 specialties, including pediatrics, gynecology, urology, pulmonology, cardiology, endocrinology and diabetology, dermatology and general medicine, as well as pharmacy and laboratory services.

The caravan placed particular emphasis on the early detection of breast and cervical cancers among women, as well as prostate cancer among men. It also provided additional tests, free medication when needed and referrals to appropriate healthcare facilities to ensure continuity of care.

Speaking to MAP, Professor Adil Mellouki, a urology specialist and lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Laayoune, said the caravan, now in its fourth edition, includes a dedicated unit for prostate cancer screening.

Early detection of the disease increases the chances of successful treatment, Mellouki said, urging men over 50 to undergo screening at least once every two years to facilitate early diagnosis and appropriate care.

Zineb Abrouk, a pharmacist and president of the Attakafoul Association for Humanitarian Work, said the caravan offers several medical specialties, in addition to mobile pharmacy and laboratory units.

She also highlighted the units dedicated to screening for women’s cancers and prostate cancer, which are key components of the health initiative.

Alongside medical consultations and examinations, a dedicated children’s area offers awareness activities on child protection and oral hygiene, as well as educational workshops adapted to their age.

The initiative follows an integrated approach to healthcare, combining prevention, screening, additional examinations, access to treatment and referrals to specialized health services.

The launch of the campaign was attended by Es-Semara Province Governor Brahim Boutoumilate, alongside Brahim El Ahmadi, director-general of the territorial health group for the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, as well as local elected officials and civilian and military figures.
