Moroccan authorities have arrested a Swedish national wanted by the authorities in his country over his suspected involvement in several cases of violent crime, in an operation praised by Swedish officials for demonstrating the effectiveness of security cooperation between the two countries.
The arrest followed a request from Swedish judicial authorities. The suspect was also the subject of an international notice issued through Interpol.
The operation was welcomed by Petra Lundh, Sweden’s national police commissioner. In a social media post, Lundh praised the effectiveness of exchanges with Moroccan authorities, particularly cooperation with the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
According to Lundh, the arrest reflects security cooperation that has strengthened between Morocco and Sweden in recent years. She referred to close and regular contacts with the Director General of National Security, which she said had helped strengthen coordination between Moroccan and Swedish security services.
The Swedish police commissioner also stressed the importance of international cooperation in the fight against organized crime. She said information sharing and coordination between security services make it easier to track wanted individuals and limit their ability to evade justice by crossing international borders.
Lundh thanked the Moroccan police for what she described as “excellent and effective” cooperation while also commending the various Swedish officials who contributed to the operation.
