Lucas Digne has completed his return to Paris Saint-Germain, with the France international signing a three-year contract with the European champions. The move will see him remain at the club until 2029, and the club confirmed he will wear the No. 12 shirt.

The 33-year-old left-back returns to Paris after eight years in England, having spent the past four seasons with Aston Villa.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed; however, according to the BBC, PSG activated an £8.5 million ($11.5 million) release clause in his Villa contract to secure his services.

The French champions confirmed the move in a statement, welcoming back a player they said had developed into a defender with experience at the highest level of European and international football.

“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the return of Lucas Digne. The French international defender has signed for the capital club until 2029 ... Known for the quality of his left foot, the accuracy of his crosses, and his consistency at the very highest level, Lucas Digne returns to Paris Saint-Germain with a wealth of European and international experience,” the club said in their statement.

The Frenchman expressed his delight and honor to return to PSG after all these years:

“I am very honored to be returning to Paris Saint-Germain following the wonderful experience I had here more than ten years ago,” Digne said.

“I am particularly impressed by how the club has developed over the years. The working conditions at the Campus are exceptional and reflect the club’s ambitions. I can’t wait to start this new chapter and put all my experience at the service of the team. Once again, I will give my very best to defend the colors of Paris Saint-Germain.”

Digne first joined PSG from Lille in 2013 and spent two seasons with the club before moving to AS Roma on loan. He subsequently joined Barcelona in 2016 before continuing his career in England with Everton and Aston Villa.

His return to Paris comes after four seasons at Villa, where he became an important part of Unai Emery’s side. He also played a key role in the club’s 2026 Europa League triumph.

Digne is expected to provide competition for Nuno Mendes at left-back as PSG begin their campaign as reigning European champions after winning the Champions League for a second consecutive season, beating Arsenal on penalties in the 2026 final.

His departure is also the latest significant change at Villa Park this summer, following the exits of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans to Manchester United.

Digne has made 503 club appearances during his career, scoring 18 goals and providing 59 assists. He has also made 57 appearances in European club competitions.

At international level, the defender has won 64 caps for France. He was part of the squad that reached the Euro 2016 final, won the Nations League in 2021, and featured at the 2014 and 2026 World Cups. He started six matches at the 2026 tournament as France reached the semi-finals.
