Roger Federer will return to the court at the US Open on Tuesday, August 25, four years after retiring from professional tennis. The 20-time Grand Slam champion will face longtime rival Andy Roddick in an exhibition at Arthur Ashe Stadium before joining three other former stars for a doubles match.
Seeing Federer back on a tennis court is always a special occasion, even in an exhibition. His meeting with Roddick will bring back memories of one of the rivalries that defined the 2000s. The two met 24 times during their careers, including in four Grand Slam finals, with Federer winning 21 of their encounters.
Federer returns to New York as a five-time US Open champion, having won the tournament five years in a row from 2004 to 2008. His last appearance at the tournament was in 2019.
The exhibition will begin with Federer and Roddick playing a one-set match. Federer will then team up with John McEnroe to face Roddick and Andre Agassi in a doubles exhibition.
The event is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, August 25, which is midnight Moroccan time, early Wednesday, August 26.
US Open Fan Week will also feature the revamped Mixed Doubles Championship, which gets underway on Tuesday, with the semifinals and final scheduled for Wednesday, August 26.
The singles qualifying tournament is also taking place during Fan Week, before the US Open main draw officially begins on Sunday, August 30, with the start of the men’s and women’s singles tournaments.
