Yassine Bounou has been nominated for the “Goalkeeper of the Season” award at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony, earning his third career nomination for the prize presented by France Football.
The Morocco and Al Hilal goalkeeper previously finished third in 2023 and fifth in 2025.
This year, Bounou will compete for the award against Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois, Spaniards Joan Garcia, David Raya and Unai Simon, Switzerland’s Gregor Kobel, Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez, Senegal’s Edouard Mendy, Russia’s Matvey Safonov and Cape Verde’s Vozinha.
Bounou won the Saudi Super Cup, finished second in the league and reached the AFC Champions League round of 16.
He also helped Morocco reach the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup, playing a key role in the Atlas Lions’ latest achievement.
The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony is scheduled for October 26 in London, rather than at Paris’ Théâtre du Châtelet, which has hosted the ceremony since 2019.
