Al Hoceima port received its first ferry under the “Marhaba 2026″ operation on Tuesday, July 14, marking the start of arrivals through the northern Moroccan port for this year’s annual transit program for Moroccans living abroad.
The ferry arrived from Motril, in southern Spain, carrying 571 passengers and 147 vehicles.
Authorities said arrangements were in place to ensure the smooth handling of arrivals, in line with royal directives aimed at providing Moroccans living abroad with efficient reception and support during their return home for the summer.
The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity is overseeing the “Marhaba 2026″ operation in coordination with the port authority, local authorities, national police, the Royal Gendarmerie, customs, civil protection, health services and other partner institutions.
Authorities and operational teams will remain mobilized throughout the operation to assist travelers, provide guidance inside the port, and ensure quick processing of entry formalities. Reception and information areas have also been set up to support passengers.
The “Marhaba operation” is particularly important for Al Hoceima, as thousands of Moroccan families—especially those with roots in the Rif and Oriental regions—return each summer to visit relatives while contributing to local economic and tourism activity.
Passenger traffic through the port is expected to increase steadily over the coming weeks as the summer holiday season reaches its peak.
