Royal Air Maroc continues to strengthen its fleet. Le360 has learned that on Thursday, August 27, the national carrier took delivery of a new Boeing 737 MAX 8 in Casablanca, bringing its fleet to 69 aircraft. This marks the 18th Boeing 737 MAX 8 added by the airline, underscoring the increasing importance of this latest-generation model in its operations.
With this recent delivery, Royal Air Maroc now operates 45 Boeing single-aisle aircraft. The 737 MAX 8 is a cornerstone of the airline’s medium-haul fleet and is expected to facilitate the gradual expansion of its network.
This latest delivery occurs as Boeing grapples with ongoing industrial constraints and program delays. The U.S. aircraft manufacturer has faced production issues, supply-chain pressures, and certification delays for certain 737 MAX versions. In July, Reuters reported that Boeing was nearing regulatory approval for a modification to the MAX’s engine anti-icing system, a crucial step for the progress of the MAX 7 and MAX 10 programs.
For Royal Air Maroc, securing and accelerating deliveries is particularly vital during its period of rapid expansion. As previously reported, RAM’s management successfully persuaded Boeing to advance the delivery of two aircraft from 2026 to 2025.
This expansion aligns with the program contract signed between the state and Royal Air Maroc in July 2023, which aims to quadruple the fleet to 200 aircraft by 2037. The plan also supports the airline’s ambition to fortify Casablanca as an air hub and significantly extend its international network.

The arrival of the new MAX 8 also precedes the completion of Royal Air Maroc’s major aircraft order. In April 2024, the airline officially launched a tender to acquire up to 200 new aircraft, inviting major manufacturers such as Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, and ATR to bid.
According to Bloomberg, the Boeing portion of this order could include up to 50 Boeing 737s for short- and medium-haul operations, alongside approximately 20 787 Dreamliners for long-haul routes. The first deliveries under this future order are anticipated from 2028.
In the interim, RAM continues to bolster its fleet through temporary deliveries. Reuters reported in November 2025 that, while awaiting the major order, the airline planned to continue utilizing leasing, with up to 13 leased aircraft per year, before reaching an annual pace of around 15 new deliveries from 2028.
This strategy supports the ongoing expansion of RAM’s network. In recent months, the airline has inaugurated new direct routes to several key economic and tourist destinations, including Beijing, São Paulo, Los Angeles, St. Petersburg, Manchester, and N’Djamena.
