Police in El Kelaâ des Sraghna, a city about 80 kilometers northeast of Marrakech, arrested two brothers early Tuesday over the alleged assault and confinement of a 16-year-old boy after footage of the incident circulated on social media.
The suspects, aged 34 and 40, were identified after police opened an investigation into a video appearing to show the teenager being assaulted before being forced into the trunk of a car.
Investigators subsequently located and arrested the two men. Police also seized the vehicle allegedly used in the incident, which was placed in the municipal impound lot on instructions from the public prosecutor’s office.
Preliminary findings indicate that the two brothers operate a farm and allegedly confronted the teenager after he entered their property without permission.
The suspects are accused of assaulting the boy with a sharp object before confining him in the vehicle. They later handed the teenager over to his mother, according to investigators.
A police unit specializing in assisting minors who are victims of violence was assigned to provide the teenager with the necessary support.
The two brothers were placed in police custody pending a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
Investigators are seeking to establish the full circumstances of the incident and determine the suspects’ individual responsibility.
