Panathinaikos announced on Thursday, October 29, that Moroccan international midfielder Azzedine Ounahi had undergone successful surgery.

Le360 Sport reported on Tuesday that Ounahi had suffered a complete tear of the right biceps femoris tendon, making surgery inevitable, according to a source close to the Greek club. He is not expected to return to action before late March or early April 2027, pushing his anticipated comeback further back from the January date initially discussed.

“The surgical team, alongside Panathinaikos doctor Haris Lalos, included world-renowned orthopedic surgeon Nicolas Lefèvre, as well as Christophe Baudot, the Moroccan national team doctor and medical consultant to Paris Saint-Germain,” the Greek club said in a post on X.

Panathinaikos also said Ounahi received a visit after the operation from Achraf Hakimi, captain of Morocco’s national team and a defender for Paris Saint-Germain.

Ounahi, who was born in Casablanca, was carried off on a stretcher on October 18 during Panathinaikos’ 5-1 win over Asteras.

His lengthy absence is a setback for Morocco, which will be without one of its key midfielders for upcoming international fixtures. Panathinaikos will also have to make do without the Moroccan international for a large part of the season.
