After winning in Rabat and Stockholm, Soufiane El Bakkali finished second at the Diamond League Finals on Saturday, September 5, in Brussels, Belgium.
The race was won by Ethiopia’s Gemechu Godana in a time of 8:08.67. He had already beaten El Bakkali in Silesia, Poland, on August 23.
The Moroccan athlete nevertheless retains the world’s best performance of the year, having clocked 7:56.68 in Rabat in May. It is the eighth-best performance of all time.
El Bakkali has won the Diamond League title once in his career, in 2022.
