Nador province has officially commissioned the public lighting network along the section of National Road No. 16 connecting Touima and Arekmane, following the completion of all construction works.
The project forms part of the province’s broader development strategy, with authorities focusing on modernizing road infrastructure and upgrading essential public facilities to improve mobility and traffic conditions.
The project required a total investment of nearly MAD 19 million and covers a 17-kilometer stretch through the installation of more than 700 streetlights equipped with energy-efficient LED technology.
The works also included the construction of seven new electrical transformer stations to meet the needs of this road corridor, which has been experiencing steadily increasing traffic.
According to Le360’s sources, the new infrastructure is intended to enhance road safety by improving nighttime visibility while providing greater comfort for motorists and other road users.
The same sources said the modernization is also expected to improve traffic flow between the municipalities served by this strategic road.
A boost for the economy and tourism
The project is also expected to support the province’s economic and tourism activity, particularly during the summer season, when visitor numbers along the coastline increase, the same sources added.
The new infrastructure is also presented as a factor that will strengthen Nador’s territorial attractiveness by supporting the major development projects currently underway across the province.
Through this project, the authorities are continuing their program to upgrade and modernize the provincial road network, with the aim of providing safer and more efficient infrastructure.
