Morocco’s men’s volleyball team lost 3-0 to Egypt on Thursday, September 17, in Tunis in their final Group B match at the African Volleyball Championship.
The national team lost the first set 25-21, the second 25-18 and the third 25-21. The result saw Morocco finish second in the group behind Egypt, with Gambia in third place.
Morocco had opened its campaign on Wednesday with a 3-1 win over Gambia, which had suffered the same scoreline in its match against Egypt.
Morocco will face the Democratic Republic of Congo in the round of 16 after the latter finished third in Group D.
Under the tournament format, the teams that finish top of their groups qualify directly for the quarter-finals, while those finishing second and third in each group play in the round of 16.
The African Championship is divided into four groups. Group A features Tunisia, Ghana and Kenya, while Group C includes Algeria, Chad and Nigeria. Group D comprises Rwanda, Central African Republic, Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The African Championship also serves as a qualifier for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games and the 2027 World Championship.
